I set up BE Legal after a successful career in legal recruitment - I’d seen things done well and not so well. I knew how I wanted to work, focusing on quality of service, market knowledge and transparency

Of course, I learned everything I needed to know about recruitment during my time working for other larger businesses – and spent a lot of time training other recruiters and building successful teams, but I knew that in going it alone, Be Legal would be something different. I wanted to set up a headhunting business that would show legal firms of all sizes (across the North West and London) that they’re not looking for staff – they’re looking for business opportunity and growth.  

We all know there’s no qualification you can take to work in recruitment, and so in this industry, our experience and reputation have to serve as our credentials. 

I really enjoy working with firms and clients who have a personality about them. I’ve always stood by the fact that, despite common misconception, lawyers are some of the funniest, sharpest and most entertaining  people you can hope to work with, so I’m privileged that I really do get to work with best professionals in the business.

More importantly than enjoying my work, though, I love proving people wrong. Recruiters often have a bad reputation and the expectation of them to do a good job is sadly quite low. I wanted to change that, and I’d like to think that since setting up Be Legal in 2014, that’s exactly what I’ve done. 

Though the headhunting comes down to me personally, I’m not hanging out here at Be Legal all alone. I’m fortunate to have built some fantastic relationships with fellow business owners in finance, law, IT and admin support, to make sure I can be supported with specialist knowledge and advice when it comes to doing the best by my clients and candidates.

Away from work, the two newest recruits to the Be Legal empire are our two grandchildren, Joseph and Hallie, and by far the two most difficult recruits I manage on a day to day basis are our two Jack Russells, Jackson and Daisy. 

If I can make them happy, I can make anyone happy.
